The k-drama Strong Woman vì chưng Bong Soon is set khổng lồ get a makeover. Melissa Scrivner-Love, screenwriter of Fear The Walking Dead, has signed on lớn adapt the drama for an American audience. So far, casting news suggests that the remake may stray far from the original.

In the original drama, the “strong girl” is played by the tiny-but-feisty Park Bo Young. Part of the k-drama’s appeal is that do Bong Soon, although unbelievably strong, is petite và pixie-cute. The character hides her superhuman strength because her crush, played by Ji Soo, might not like her if he knew. That means he feels the need khổng lồ protect her even though she’s strong enough to sling him over her shoulder after a night of drinking. It’s only when bởi vì Bong Soon starts guarding a game company CEO, played by Park Hyung Sik, that she encounters a man who finds her strength sexy.

In the Strong Girl remake, the strong girl role will be played by mixed martial artist, judoka & professional wrestler Ronda Rousey. Besides winning dozens of medals for her physical strength & fighting savvy, Rousey has appeared in a few films. She played a nightclub bouncer in The Expendables, a billionaire’s head of security in Furious & Sam Snow in the thriller Mile 22. Rousey is undeniably a powerhouse, both strong và beautiful, but shewould probably reject being categorized as petite or “cute.” Does that mean her character won"t be?

Playing the strong woman bởi vì Bong Soon did not require Park Bo Young to have actual physical strength, just comedic acting skills, plus the help of some special effects. At the start of the drama vày Bong Soon is looking for a job. She wants to design games và takes a job as a bodyguard because she thinks it will give her an entry into trò chơi design. The character"s efforts to lớn realize the trò chơi are funny, since the trò chơi she creates is about her own life.

Rousey’s character in the remake is called Rayna & she’s a former war photographer, who discovers she is indestructible. War photography is not for the faint of heart & that career choice implies that Rayna is already close khổng lồ fearless & used to lớn facing grim situations. Rayna is hired as a bodyguard for a billionaire named Oliver, who recognizes her potential. But what exactly will her potential be? Does Rayna have a dream? Will she be funny?

Strong Woman vị Bong Soon is not the first time a k-drama was adapted lớn American TV và adaptations often take the original plot in other directions. The Good Doctor, starring Freddie Highmore, was adapted from the 2013 award-winning South Korean series Good Doctor, starring Joo Won. The main character is a doctor with autism spectrum disorder. He has a gift for visualizing và diagnosing difficult conditions, but suffers from a lack of interpersonal skills. Rights to the k-drama were picked up by actor Daniel Dae Kim and his production company 3AD.

David Shore, who created the medical drama House, adapted Good Doctor for American audiences. He stuck closely khổng lồ the original plot for the pilot script, but then adapted the story, placing the main character in a bigger hospital and altering the relationships between characters. The remake went on lớn be ABC’s highest-rated first year drama in 13 years, earned Highmore a Golden Globe nomination, & was picked up for a second season.

A third drama was also optioned. Daniel Dae Kim’s Lost co-star Yunjin Kim and her production company optioned the rights lớn Nine, a 2013 time travel k-drama, starring Lee Jin Wook, but there has been no more news of any American development.

Is it possible to judge a k-drama remake if you’re a fan of the original? That might not be fair. The remake may have merits of its own & it will be interesting to lớn see how likable Strong Girl is & whether viewers won’t mind if her character is not “cute.”
